Bruce Ficken

Bruce Ficken '70 became a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He is a partner and chair of the construction practice group at Pepper Hamilton LLP. The induction ceremony took place in October 2005, during the 55th annual meeting of the college in Chicago, Ill.

Joe Palchak '71 is operations vice president of Eaton Corporation's Engine Air Management Operations. He has been with Eaton for 32 years and has held numerous global leadership positions in a variety of businesses.

Bill Landes '71 was elected president of the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association/ Kentucky Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders trade association. Since 1977, Bill has been associated with Hermitage Farm, Goshen, Ky. In addition, he and his wife, Sally, own Greystone Farm.

Mary “Polly” Mitchell '71 Savidge wrote a book titled Murder Wears a Red Hat. Partly set in Snyder County, Selinsgrove and Susquehanna University are recognized under assumed names. The book, published by PublishAmerica, is available through online booksellers; signed copies are available by e-mailing psavidge@chilitech.net. She has been an English teacher at Selinsgrove Area High School for 30 years, and over 80 members of her family have attended Susquehanna.

Ed Bernik '74 published a collection of photographs in Pennsylvania Wilds: Images from the Allegheny National Forest. The book, with its companion CD, is available through major booksellers. Ed has been a commercial photographer for 25 years, specializing in corporate and editorial images of people. He has published five other books of photography, including Helaman Ferguson: Mathematics in Stone and Bronze, which earned Folio magazine's Ozzie Award for design excellence.

Meg Shaw '74 Ellacott is the owner of Ellacott Productions, LLC, a firm that provides trade show sales, marketing and management services to the exhibition production industry. The company's Web site can be visited at www.ellashow.com.

Dorothy Varvaris '74 Henry is a pupil personnel worker with Carroll County Public Schools in Hampstead, Md.

Dale Horchner '74 holds a bachelor of arts in photography from Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, Calif., and is the staff photographer for Design Workshop, a landscape architecture firm in Denver, Colo.

Gunther Weisbrich '74 is president of ENECO, a company that has designed a wind amplified rotor platform (WARP) that amplifies the ambient wind speed to generate electricity. The company's Web site is located at www.warp-eneco.com. Gunther lives in Dallas, Texas.

Larry Wolfgang '74 is a technical editor with the American Radio Relay League (ARRL), the national association for amateur radio, in Newington, Conn. A 24-year veteran of the association, Larry wrote the ARRL book Understanding Basic Electronics. He has also edited the ARRL study materials for amateur radio licenses, including Now You're Talking! All You Need for your First Amateur Radio License.

Jim Alling '75 is a data warehouse manager with Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Vermont through Keane Consulting. He lives in Barre, Vt. He can be reached at jtalling2001@yahoo.com.

Gwen Barclay-Toy '75 was a visiting lecturer at the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University during the fall of 2005. She taught a management communication course.

Molly Cochran '75 is guidance director at Denbigh High School in Newport News, Va. After teaching radio broadcasting from 1987 to 1995 with Newport News Public Schools, she became a high school guidance counselor in 1995.

Wm. Clark Snyder '75 presented the premiere of “Pierrot Songs,” a cycle of songs for soprano, based on poems by Sara Teasdale, on Oct. 7, 2005, at Tabula Rasa of Ithaca, N.Y. Tabula Rasa presents new music of composers in the greater Ithaca Area. Bill is classical music director at WSKG-FM, choirmaster at Christ Episcopal Church, Binghamton, N.Y.,and stage director of the Summer Savoyards.

Nancy Musser '76 Cody married George Westbrook, on Sept. 10, 2005, at their home in New Berlin, Pa. Nancy was married to the late William J. Cody '73 . Attending the bride and groom were their children, including Allison Cody '04 Houtz . Nancy is an area sales manager for the BonTon Corporation.

John Davidson '76 was admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar. He lives in Harrisburg, Pa.

Jim Camut '77 is the director of business development at Redpath Integrated Pathology Inc., in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Michael Feeney '77 was honored as Bucks County, Pa., Conservation District Farmer of the Year at the Middletown Grange Fair in August 2005.

Gregg Heffner '77 is a clinical social worker and therapist at Arise Child & Family Service in Syracuse, N.Y.

Jack Miller '78 and his wife, Karen, celebrated the first birthday of their daughter, Alexandra Sylene, on Oct. 5, 2005. Jack is employed by Sportsradio 610 WIP in Philadelphia.

SU'd Big Brother-Big Sister program founders

Former residents of 605 University Avenue and founders of SU's Big Brothers Big Sisters program had a 25th reunion party in September 2004 at the home of Jim Wallbillich '79. Jim arranged for a limo to take the group to visit campus. Jennifer Gamble '79 Allebach is the director for adult development with the Girl Scouts Valley Council in Allentown, Pa.

Walter Taylor '79 received the Irving R. Glick Award for 2004 from the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Tour for outstanding service to the WTA Tour by a tournament physician. He is head tournament physician for the WTA Tour Bausch and Lomb Tennis Championship Tournament, annually held on Amelia Island, Fla. He is an assistant professor of family medicine at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla., and program director of the Sports Medicine Fellowship, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine.
