Marian Steigerwalt '49 Dorward and her husband, Craig, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Sept. 6, 2002. Now retired, Marian was the former organist and director of choirs in Emmanual Lutheran Church, Pottstown, Pa., and also a private teacher of organ, piano and voice. They live in Lebanon, Pa. 1950
Lou Santangelo '50 hosted the 50th-year reunion of the survivors of the USS Sarsi (ATF111) in September 2002 at his home in Hershey, Pa. On August 27, 1952, while his vessel was patrolling between Wonson/Hugnam, Korea, his ship was mined and lost in the Sea of Japan. Lt. Santangelo was decorated for heroic achievement after he coolly directed all personnel in abandoning ship. He then kept 16 men in a raft together off enemy-held-coastline. The group picked up additional survivors and eventually numbered 37 when rescued the following day.
