Henry “Hank” Diers, September 9, 2004, Fort Myers, Fla. He was dean of the School of Fine Arts and Communications at Susquehanna from 1986 to 1998. Diers provided leadership and oversight of the School’s three main departments — art, music, and communications and theatre arts. During his tenure at Susquehanna, Diers also was director for a time of the Lore Degenstein Gallery, oversaw operations of the Degenstein Center Theater, taught and directed the theater program, and managed the University’s Artists Series. He also received an Emmy nomination for his work as associate producer on a Christmas Candlelight Service for WVIA-TV. At the time of his retirement in 1998, Warren Funk, then vice president for academic affairs, said "Hank has contributed much to Susquehanna University in his twelve years as dean. Perhaps few are aware of the broad understanding of both the fine arts disciplines (music, studio art and art history, and theatre) and the rapidly developing field of communications required of the dean of this school." After leaving Susquehanna, Diers began a theatre program at Florida Gulf Coast University where he taught, directed, and championed the academic legitimacy of improvisational theatre and comedy. In 2003, he retired from teaching.
