Zelda Haus '27, Phillipsburg, N.J., June 24, 2005. She was a teacher of social studies at Phillipsburg High School for 42 years and served as chairperson of the social studies department for part of that time. She retired from the school system in 1970.

Homer C. Groce '40, Westhampton, N.Y., July 7, 2005. He was a vice president in the family business, William F. Groce Inc. Silk Mills and Groce Distributors. He had also served as president and CEO of Building Systems of America Inc. and Southern Business Systems Inc. In his retirement, he codified the Lenape American Indian language. He authored Lenape Vocabulary Words, Principal Chiefs of the North East and the novels Silver Hawk and Kahya. In 1991, he was adopted into the Lenape tribe by the Eastern Delaware Nation. He became an elder of the Turtle Clan and sat on the Grand Council of Chiefs, where he was given the name Lupwe or “keeper of the language.” He is survived by his wife, Anna Hill '40 Groce and daughter, Barbara Groce '63 Ward.
Charles H. Weyhenmeyer Sr. '40, March 25, 2005, Springfield, Ill. He was a member of the Phi Mu Delta fraternity at Susquehanna. After serving as a Navy officer and aviator in World War II, he worked in a number of management positions with companies in Hazleton, Pa., and Chicago, Ill. He was the president and co-owner of Career Management Incorporated in San Francisco. After retiring to Springfield in 1992, he was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church, where he volunteered in the food pantry, served on the church council and sang in the chancel choir.

J. Bertram Strickland '45, Lititz, Pa. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the chaplain's department in Camp Croft, S.C. He was employed as organist-choirmaster at Trinity Episcopal Church in Williamsport, Pa., having retired in 1991. He also worked for Austin Organs of Hartford, Conn., as a salesman and organ builder, and was self-employed as an organ tuner. He was a member of the American Guild of Organists and Guild of Carillonneurs. He is survived by his son, Peter Strickland '78.
Gloria Walmer '48 Coursey, Phoenixville, Pa., August 18, 2005. She was a secretary for American Baptist Industries in King of Prussia and also a homemaker.

Charles A. Snyder Jr. '53, Aug. 7, 2005, York, Pa. He was a retired Lutheran pastor. After retirement, he served as an interim pastor of Salem Lutheran Church of Jacobus, Trinity Lutheran Church of Wrightsville and St. Peter Lutheran Church of North York. He is survived by his son, Mark A. Snyder '79.
Richard C. Smith '58, Aug. 6, 2005, Dover, Pa. Dr. Smith owned and operated his own family practice in Dover since 1970. He also served as a physician for Dover Area School District since 1987 and for the Northern York County Regional Police.
Edward F. Marburger, Jr. '60, St. Thomas, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Aug. 24, 2005. He was a pilot, having served with the Navy's Seabees during the 1950s. He taught special-education students for several years in Middleburg, Pa. and was a flight instructor in New Cumberland, Pa. Since 1991, he had lived in St. Thomas, where he flew passengers from St. John to St. Thomas.
Samuel Metzger '65, Roaring Spring, Pa., June 19, 2005. After teaching one year at West York High School, he taught for 35 years at Central High School, retiring in 2002. He was also an assistant football coach and the varsity head coach from 1979 to 1985. He also coached junior high basketball and baseball. He was a director of the Roaring Spring Parks and Recreation Department for many years and served on the Roaring Spring Water Authority and an advisory committee for the Spring Cove School District.
Joanne Brink '66 Scheib, Aug. 2, 2005, Pottsville, Pa. She taught elementary music in the Boyertown School District, Kindergarten in the Centennial School District and second grade in the Pottsville Area School District. She also taught private piano and instrumental lessons. She is survived by her husband, Gary Scheib '66.
Gail Spory '67 McPherson, New Park, Pa., July 9, 2005. She taught English, drama and journalism at Kennard-Dale High School for five years. She was active in the day-to-day operation of Maple Lawn Farms, managing the office, farm market, personnel, advertising and newsletters. She had also created the farm's popular Peachilicious Peach Festival. She is survived by her brother, William Spory '71 .
Joyce Oberlin '74 Smar, Amherst, Mass., August 21, 2005. She was employed as the director of programming for the Fine Arts Center at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, since 1995. She was also a flutist and she came to the museum in 1975 as a music instructor. By the late 1970s, she oversaw music education and managed the Peristyle, Great Gallery and Sunday concert series. She is survived by her husband, Ben Smar '74 .
Katie Kasinecz '07, Emmaus, Pa., Sept. 2, 2005, as a result of an automobile accident. She was a junior majoring in graphic design. She graduated with honors from Emmaus High School in 2003. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Emmaus, and a member of its bell choir. She was a manager at the summertime snack bar at Lehigh Country Club and worked in the Lore Degenstein Gallery on campus.
Justin Miller '08, Abbottstown, Pa, July 17, 2005, as the result of a drowning accident. He was majoring in biology and was a member of the cross country and track and field teams. As a freshman, he competed in both the Middle Atlantic Conference Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Championships during the 2004-05 season. He was a 2003 graduate of New Oxford High School, where he participated in track and cross country.
