Deaths Helen DeHoff '29 McCahan, Atlanta Ga., May 7, 2006. William Steele Morrow '34, New Bloomfield, Pa., Sept. 16, 2006. A World War II veteran, he practiced law in and served as district attorney for Perry County. Later he was the senior partner of Morrow Tax Associates until his retirement in 2001. She was a full-time social studies teacher and part-time substitute teacher for the Conemaugh Township Area School District. He was an administrator in Tallahassee, Fla., for the DHRS Aging and Adult Services for about 13 years before retiring in 1985. Melissa Smoot '41 Phillips, Edgewater, Md., Oct. 22, 2006. Ferne Poorbaugh '41, Garrett, Pa., May 22, 2006. She worked as a high school teacher for Laurel Highlands School in Uniontown, Pa., until her retirement in 1982 after 42 years of service. John W. Mayer '42, Dallas, Texas, March 30, 2006. Philip Templin '42, Meadville, Pa., Oct. 18, 2006. During World War II, while employed by DuPont, he was assigned to the Manhattan Project. In 1945, he joined the research division of Gulf Oil Co. and in 1949 became a Junior Fellow at the Mellon Institute of Industrial Research in Pittsburgh. He returned to Gulf Research and Development Co. in 1953, remaining there as a senior research chemist and project leader until retirement in December 1982. While employed by Gulf he was credited with ten patents and five publications in science journals and was listed in “Who's Who in American Men of Science” journals. Ralph E. Wolfgang '42, Catawissa, Pa., May 15, 2006. He was a clarinetist and conductor of the Catawissa Military Band and was the principal clarinetist of the Bloomsburg University College-Community Orchestra. His teaching began at Catawissa in 1946, included a master's degree in music education at Ithaca College in the early 1950s, and ended with retirement in 1980 from Southern Columbia schools. Allen W. Donald McBane '68, Elkton, Md., Oct. 15, 2006. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam. He taught at Clemson University and Central Michigan University. Robert L. Russell '68, South Elgin, Ill., July 30, 2006. Matthew Brown '75, Maple Shade, N.J., May 24, 2006. He worked as a systems analyst at Bristol Meyer Squibb for more than 20 years. Ellen Seeman '80 Booker, St. Leonard, Md., Oct. 6, 2006. She was a successful sales representative for Alling and Corey, Simpson and Mohawk paper companies. She appeared in numerous stage productions while in college and afterwards in the community theatre in Mechanicsburg, Pa. Stephan L. Schrankel '02, Holmdel, N.J., Sept. 13, 2006. He was a supply chain analyst for Cardinal Health Medical Products and Services. He had also worked for Sunoco as a customer support technician and for Point-to-Point Business Development. Rosine Krahme, Charlotte, N.C., June 12, 2006. She was a cataloger in the Susquehanna library from 1960 – 1970 and was the widow of Alfred Krahmer, Lutheran minister and head librarian at Susquehanna during the same period. Charles S. Kunes Sr., State College, Pa., Oct. 2, 2006. He served overseas in the U.S. Air Force during World War II from 1943 to 1946 as Sergeant in the 1443rd Ordinance Service and Maintenance Company. He was a professor of health and physical education at Susquehanna University, retiring in 1991. He served as head wrestling coach at Susquehanna for 25 years. He was a PIAA and NCAA wrestling official for 33 years. In 1984, he was inducted into the NCAA Division III Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame and was elected into the Division III Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame in March 2004. He was also inducted into the Lock Haven University Wrestling Hall of Fame in April 2005. |
