Alumni News
Message BoardAs 2008 approaches, here’s a peek at what’s developing in the alumni relations program: The university will be celebrating its sesquicentennial in 2008, and we have a number of festivities planned. The first special event will be a “noteworthy” celebration at Carnegie Hall in New York City on March 7, 2008. This is one event you won’t want to miss. For additional information, see the related story and visit www.susqu.edu/150. The sesquicentennial celebration will extend through Commencement 2009. Another major set of sesquicentennial activities will occur during Homecoming Reunion Weekend 2008, October 3 through 5. The Alumni Association Executive Board has approved moving forward with the combined homecoming reunion weekend concept. Guiding this decision were results from a survey in which nearly 600 alumni participated. Alumni who attended our fall 2007 events responded by a margin of 80 percent to 20 percent in favor of keeping the combined weekend; alumni who did not attend also responded 80 percent to 20 percent in favor of combining events. We also received great feedback and suggestions that will contribute to better programming, and we appreciate those who shared their thoughts. The Alumni Board has also asked us, and we have agreed, to explore the possibility of developing some type of spring campus program, as a number of alumni expressed a preference for visiting campus during that time of year. Because alumni have expressed value in making connections and staying connected, one of our priorities continues to be networking and communication. As part of the effort to foster ties between alumni and the university, we will continue to move forward with the development of regional chapters in New York City; Washington, D.C.; and Pittsburgh, Pa. We plan to expand our regional groups once the first three programs are operational. If you are interested in regional programs and networking opportunities, please contact us. The alumni association is also moving forward with a nine-year plan to engage students and young alumni in activities that will provide support and information during the transition from student to alumnus/a. We are also working with a group of alumni on a new concept for career networking, and we hope to launch a pilot program during 2008. Alumni are vitally important to Susquehanna University. Your feedback and ideas are important for the growth and development of the alumni relations program. We will continue to incorporate your ideas as we advance our programs and services.
