Blyler
Kenneth and Irene Blyler

Kenneth Blyler '35 has had an interesting and useful life since his graduation from SU in 1935. He married Irene Heredeen in August 1938, the wedding service conducted by his SU classmate, the Rev. Robert Clark '35. Between 1935 and 1945, Ken taught both instrumental and vocal music in the Falls Township Schools in Lower Bucks County. He organized the second high school band in Lower Bucks County and that band continued until it became the Pennsbury Band of today. One of his students, a tuba player, became music arranger for the Andy Williams Show. From 1945 until 1952, Ken taught instrumental music in the Darby Public Schools. Every day he traveled to Darby by train from Trenton, N.J. In 1952, he returned to Pennsbury District. Ken retired in 1976 but continued to substitute in Pennsbury schools until two years ago. He was also a church organist for 23 years and a member of the local Lions Cub for many years. He and his wife are living in Levittown, Pa., which has been their home since Ken's retirement. They have two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Ken and Irene are celebrating 65 years of their marriage - which indicated that Bob Clark tied that knot rather well.

Donald Henry '35 has kept busy since graduating from SU. He spent the World War II years at Olmstead Field in Middletown, Pa. He owned and operated Harrisburg Storage and lived in Harrisburg not many houses from that of Alfey Stamets '35. At age 65, Don retired and moved with his wife, Frances, to Sun City Center, Fla., where they helped bring the membership of the Lutheran Church there to 600. Don was president of the Kiwanis and attended three of their national conventions. He was also president of the Home Owner's Association for several years. His wife died in 2000 and he moved to Dallas, Texas, to be near his oldest son, Don. He had two other sons, one of whom died at age 29. He has three grandsons, a great-grandson and a great-great-granddaughter, and is still in Dallas at 10931 Marsh Lane.

Five attended our 60th reunion on May 31, 2003, and we received royal treatment. We were guests at every event although only two stayed for the Hawaiian Luau Saturday evening featuring hula dancers and a fire performer.

Attending the reunion were Mary Moore'43 Cox, Marion Crow '43, Emagean Pensyl '43 Whitmoyer, Ferne Lauver '43 Zeigler and Ruth Eleanor McCorkill '43. Marion came the farthest distance, from Pittsburgh. She is very active in the mission field and has been invited for a 12-day prayer walk in Singapore in July. She has traveled with prayer groups to China, India and Germany.

Messages from Jessie Walton '43 Schmitthenner and Louise Williams '43 Sechler were read. Jessie couldn't attend because she went to a high school graduation in California for her youngest grandson, who was valedictorian in a class of 800. Louise sent love to everyone.

Some lived too far away to return and others had health problems. We missed you. Let's hope we'll be alive and able to return for future reunions.

Thanks to those who completed the reunion survey and sent recent photos, which were included in a picture directory for each classmate.

Many thanks to Lynn Hassinger '57 Askew who made orange and maroon paper stars for each one at the reunion.

Much appreciation to Susquehanna for our surprise, elegant, five-piece place setting of white china with gold trim and the Susquehanna University seal given to the five who returned for our 60th.

Thanks to the alumni office and Ken Hall from the development office for making our 60th reunion memorable.
