Barner Swartz '40, and his wife, Wilma Jean, were honored as Community Citizens by Perry Valley Grange. Barner taught school for 37 years, directing two bands and three choruses. He organized the Greenwood Community Band and was named director emeritus when he retired several years ago. He was named Outstanding Volunteer by the School Retirees of Region 4 and Citizen of the Year by the Millerstown Jaycees.
