Counter Description

The Susquehanna University Web Page Counter is a program that keeps track of the number of times a web page is visited. This is done through a small GIF-image that is inserted into the web page.

It allows an unlimited number of separate counters and different digit styles of any size. It also includes advanced anti-terrorist protection features to prevent the illegal use of a counter on another web page.

The counter is designed to support ISAPI conventions introduced by Microsoft that will give about 10...50 times faster response time when compared to standard CGI programs.

Counter Parameters

The web page counter features several optional parameters to make the counter more personalized. The most important of the optional parameters is probably the style parameter. Below you will find the list of available parameters. All of the parameter names and argument values are case insensitive. When more than one paramenter is used, each parameter is separated by an ampersand (&).

• link=link_id
  This is the only mandatory parameter! The link_id argument is different for each counter. This value is assigned when you create a counter.
• width=w
  w represents the number of digits displayed. The maximum value is 10. The default value is 5.
• style=style_id
  The style_id is the name of the digit style you choose. The default value is 'A'.
• increase=i
  i is the increment by which the counter value is changed each time the counter is called. It can be any integer value, even a negative one. The default value is 1.
• show=NO
  This parameter determines whether the counter is displayed on the page. If it is set to 'NO', the counter will not be displayed. By default the counter will be shown.
• transparent=ON
  Enables to create transparent counter image even from nontransparent digit sources. It is assumed that the pixel (0,0) of the counter image represents the background color.
• beep=ON
  Sounds a short beep if set to 'ON' when counter is accessed. It is disabled by default.
