What is WomenSpeak?

There are three main facets of WomenSpeak: the organization itself, the Women's Studies House, and the Women's Resource Center. WomenSpeak is a member of the SUN Council Project House system and works to foster a safe, egalitarian environment in which students may find an outlet for their gender or safety concerns. To this purpose we help to raise awareness of domestic and sexual violence, safety measures on campus, and acceptance of people from a wide range of backgrounds.

Essentially a feminist organization, we participate in causes and activities that promote gender equality. We seek to break down stereotypes and to educate those around us about how gender affects our society.

The House

The WomenSpeak House is located at 604 University Avenue and functions as Project Housing for some WomenSpeak members, as well as a space for our weekly meetings. Receptions and special events for both WomenSpeak functions and the Women's Studies Department are held there. It is also a safe-haven for any student who needs a place to stay or feels that he or she has nowhere else to turn with a problem. Our door is always open. (You really don't need to ring the doorbell. Really.)

The Women's Resource Center

The WRC is located in the basement of Bogar Hall in room 014. It's stocked with books by women, books about women and society, magazines, pamphlets and masses of information good for research and daily life. The WRC is staffed by volunteers, and so the hours can be tricky. Stop by and check the schedule on the door.
