[BACKGROUND]
Traditional Country and Country Gospel music has been a staple on WQSU-FM for close to three decades.
The era started when Mr. Larry Augustine convinced Linda Lou Stone to bring her popular
radio show to WQSU when another area station changed formats. On the air from 10 AM - Noon
every Saturday Linda Lou, with the aid of our powerful transmitter, blanketed a large section of Central
Pennsylvania with the sounds of steel guitars, twin fiddles, and the unique vocals of artists such as Hank
Williams, Sr., Patsy Montana, Ernest Tubb, Patsy Cline and Linda's great friends Buck Owens, Elton Britt
and Rosalie Allen. She set a standard of musical excellence that is still demanded by
today's audience. Susquehanna graduate Joe Kantz took over when Linda Lou retired at the end of
1992 and when Joe's life took him in a different direction Dave Pearce succeeded him.
Since then Traditional Country and Country Gospel music has expanded to six hours; Dave's "Pure
as Stone Country Music Jamboree" (9:03 AM - Noon) and Susquehanna graduate Luke Roman's
"Let There Be Country" (12:03 PM - 3 PM). In addition to carrying on the musical
heritage left by Linda Lou and Joe, Dave and Luke do special shows on the weekends prior to Easter, Mother's
Day, Father's Day, July 4th and Veterans' Day. The expanded time allows additional types
of Traditional Country music, such as Trucker's music, to be showcased.
Because of its popularity in the area WQSU provides six (6) hours of Bluegrass and Bluegrass Gospel;
"Derek the Dude's Bluegrass" (3:03 PM - 6 PM) and Cristi and Barefoot Nellie's
"Bluegrass Rules" (9 PM - Midnight), also on Saturday.
The Country and Bluegrass DJ's, along with our versatile fill-in Big Trace, team up on Christmas Eve to
do a special five hour show.

While in high school, Dave Pearce took to the airways as a sports announcer and fill-in DJ at the Allegheny
Mountain Network's WTRN-AM/WGMR-FM in Tyrone, Pennsylvania. After being away from the mike for several years,
Dave returned to WTRN/WGMR as the Friday overnight host of a Traditional Country music show. Work and family
responsibilities again took him out of radio and he thought that career was over for good, until Joe Kantz
nominated him to take over as Host of "Pure as Stone" Country Music Jamboree In the 11 years since Dave
took over the hosting duties he, thanks in a large part to the good will and reputation created by Linda Lou
and Joe, has had the opportunity to meet, talk with, interview, MC shows for and share a meal and/or beverage
with some of the greatest Legends in the Country Music industry. In 2000 an association of Independent
Producers and Artists invited him to a Showcase and Awards Show in Nashville where he was named the "Airplay
International DJ Of The Year." This honor has opened lines of communication with artists and producers in
Europe, Australia/New Zealand and other parts of the world where America's Traditional Country music is wildly
popular.
A firm believer that artists and songwriters should be recognized and rewarded for their efforts, Dave posts
his weekly play list on American and European Reporting Boards.
