Brandt Bowman ’09, an attorney at Rhoads & Sinon in Harrisburg, Pa., has been named to the 2017 Pennsylvania Rising Stars list, an honor given to no more than 2.5 percent of attorneys in the state under the age of 40. Candidates for the award are nominated by peers and the research team.

After graduating from Susquehanna with majors in finance and economics, Bowman attended Penn State’s Dickinson School of Law, where he graduated summa cum laude. He attributes much of his success to what he learned during his time at Susquehanna—in particular, how to interact with others in an open-minded way, which in turn allowed him to learn from both classmates and professors at the two universities.

“There are countless books that purport to explain how to succeed in law school, but I opted to continue to do what was successful for me at SU. I’d say it worked,” he said.

Bowman isn’t the only attorney in the Class of 2009 who is gaining attention in his field. Zachary Fowler, an associate attorney at Gross McGinley in Allentown, Pa., was also named to the 2016 and 2017 Pennsylvania Rising Stars list.

Fowler, who graduated cum laude from the Widener University School of Law, also attributes Susquehanna—and especially his academic mentors—with setting the foundation for his success.

“The political science department offered courses that challenged me beyond the words in (any) textbook,” he said.
