Susquehanna University will extend Earth Week into a celebration of Earth Month with a full schedule of events to bring awareness to sustainable living and ecojustice issues.

Schedule of events:

Monday, April 1

Documentary screening, 7 p.m., Blough-Weis Library, Room 104. The True Cost documents the impact of cheap fashion. This event is free and open to the public.

Tuesday, April 2, 9, 16, 23

Zero-Waste Lunch, Evert Dining Room-All waste from these lunches will be composted through the Bokashi composting method.

Monday, April 8

Solar Party, 1-3 p.m., Degenstein Lawn. Students will host a party during prime sun hours. Music will pump through a solar-powered speaker. Activities include building solar cookers to make s’mores.

Wednesday, April 10

Zero-Waste Panel, 6:30 p.m., Blough-Weis Library, Room 104. Panelists will discuss the tips and tricks of living a low-waste lifestyle. Panelists are Derek Martin, sustainability coordinator; Leslie Imhoof, assistant director of the SU Annual Fund; and senior Jennie Lien, an environmental studies major from Gilbertsville, Pa. The panel will be moderated by sophomore Caitlyn Miller, a biomedical sciences major from Reading, Pa., who just completed a 30-day, bag-free challenge. This event is free and open to the public.

Sunday, April 14

Clean Sweep, 10 a.m. A group of student volunteers will spruce-up downtown Selinsgrove. This activity is in conjunction with the Student Government Association.

Tuesday, April 16

Documentary screening, 7 p.m., Blough-Weis Library, Room 104. How to Change the World follows a group of activists who set out to stop President Richard Nixon’s nuclear bomb tests and end up creating Greenpeace. This event is free and open to the public.

Wednesday, April 17

Veg-Out Lunch, Evert Dining Room. This plant-forward lunch will feature vegetarian meal options at all main food stations in the cafeteria.

DIY Makers Fair, 5-7 p.m., Mellon Lounge. Participants will make sustainable products, such as laundry detergent or facial scrubs that they can take home.

Monday, April 22

Earth Day at the Campus Garden, 5-7 p.m. This garden work session ends with a potluck salad dinner. Bring your own toppings! This event is free and open to the public.

Friday, April 26

Tiny Sustainability Theatre, 7 p.m., Isaacs Auditorium, Seibert Hall. This event consists of several short, student-performed plays about Susquehanna’s sustainability efforts by playwright Chantal Bilodeau, whose work intersects science, policy, art and climate change. This event is free and open to the public.

Tuesday, April 30

Documentary screening, 7 p.m., Blough-Weis Library, Room 104. Chasing Ice follows the efforts of nature photographer James Balog to publicize the effects of climate change. This event is free and open to the public.
