Our Department of Music will present several concerts of instrumental music throughout the month of April that are free and open to the public.

Student recitals of chamber music will be held April 24 and 25, both at 7:30 p.m. in Stretansky Concert Hall in the Cunningham Center for Music and Art.

The University Jazz Ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. April 26 in Stretansky Concert Hall. The ensemble is directed by Joshua Davis, associate professor of music at Susquehanna.

The University Orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m. April 28 in Stretansky Concert Hall. The orchestra is conducted by Gregory Grabowski, assistant professor of music at Susquehanna.

The University Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble will perform at 2:30 p.m. April 29 in Stretansky Concert Hall. The symphonic band is conducted by Eric Hinton, associate professor of music and director of bands at Susquehanna.

Each group will perform a piece by the American conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein to commemorate the 100th anniversary of his birth: the Symphonic Band will perform “Overture to ‘Candide,’” and the Wind Ensemble will perform “Prelude, Fugue and Riffs,” featuring Rebecca Reeder ’21, a music education major at Susquehanna, on clarinet.

In addition, the concert will feature a faculty performance by Gail Levinsky, associate professor of music, on saxophone. She will perform “Fantasia for Alto Saxophone” by Claude T. Smith with the Symphonic Band and Robert Muczynski’s “Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Winds.”

All events are sponsored by Susquehanna’s Department of Music.
