Acclaimed as “an outstanding singer with a very well-produced leading tenor voice” by the Süddeutsche Zeitung, Munich, Jeffrey Fahnestock has performed a wide range of repertoire across the United States, Great Britain, and Germany. He sings a variety of oratorio literature for lyric tenor, including Handel’s Messiah, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Haydn’s Die Schöpfung, Dvorak’s Stabat Mater, Britten’s Saint Nicolas, Monteverdi’s Vespers, and J.S.Bach’s Mass in B Minor, Johannespassion, Matthäuspassion, and the cantatas. As an operatic soloist, Mr. Fahnestock has performed works by Mozart, Britten, Ravel, Cavalli, Bononcini, Donizetti, Verdi, and Massenet.
Mr. Fahnestock is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music, where he studied with Yi-Kwei Sze and Seth McCoy, and The Peabody Institute, where his teacher was Stanley Cornett. He was awarded Fellowships for the study of art song and opera at the Tanglewood Music Center, Ravinia Festival’s Steans Institute, and Kent/Blossom Music Festival. In addition, Fahnestock studied with Jon Humphrey for two summers at the Aspen Music School and Festival. He has coached with Gerard Souzay, Ernst Haefliger, Hermann Prey, Reri Grist, Phyllis Curtin, Martin Katz, Warren Jones, Thomas Grubb, and Evelyn Lear, among others.
Currently on the faculties at Susquehanna University and Gettysburg College, Mr. Fahnestock teaches applied voice, vocal literature and lyric diction. He is also the co-director of Susquehanna University’s GO-Japan (Global Opportunities) Program, a chamber music residency at Niigata University with travel to Sado Island and Tokyo. He has recorded for Albany and Guild, and been a featured soloist on radio and television broadcasts in the United States.
