From Susquehanna to Super Bowl Team

When Brian Papson ’99 was trying to choose which college to attend, he had more than a few options-but it was a visit to Selinsgrove that cemented his decision to enroll at Susquehanna University. He says it’s one of the best decisions he has ever made.

“After visiting Susquehanna, I knew it was the right place for me. It had the right combination of quality academics and athletics that I liked, and I know this sounds odd, but the campus was clean and I really felt at home there,” says Papson, who is the vice president of marketing for the 2018 Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles.

Not only was the campus appealing to him, but the education and opportunities offered at the Division III level also helped him make his decision.

“I liked the small classes and the community feeling on campus,” says Papson. “I felt comfortable in class, and my confidence improved at the same time with the close-knit atmosphere on campus.”

Papson points directly to his experiences as a student-athlete at Susquehanna as a reason for his professional success.

The two-sport athlete was a pitcher for the baseball team and played several positions, including quarterback and wide receiver, before finding a starting role as a tight end in his senior year for the football team.

“I was willing to play wherever I was needed in order to help the team,” says Papson. “I think I have done that in my career path as well. I wear several different hats but always give my best effort no matter what the task.”

Papson still has many close friends who started as teammates for the Orange and Maroon.

“I would tell students today that they should cherish these times in college and not take them for granted,” he says. “I would encourage them to not be afraid to take on new challenges and step up to the plate when it comes to trying something new.”
