Service is at the heart of a Susquehanna education.
Each year, students, faculty, staff, alumni and parents prove their commitment to bettering our world during SU SERVE.
In 2012, we expanded Susquehanna Engaging in Regional Volunteer Experiences (SU SERVE), a campuswide day of service held each April in Selinsgrove and surrounding communities that began in 2005. It became a monthlong campaign, challenging all Susquehannans to collectively volunteer at least 10,000 hours of community service.
Not only did we meet 10,000 hours in 2012—we exceeded it! And it's gone nowhere but up from there.
Participants logged more than:
- 17,000 hours in 2012
- 24,000 hours in 2013
- 25,000 hours in 2014
In 2015, SU SERVE became a year-round event, with more than 115,000 hours of service collected on a goal of 50,000. More than 117,000 hours were logged in 2016 for 1,066 community organizations. In 2017, we logged 83,963 service hours for 733 organizations.
For 2018, our goal is 100,000 hours and 1,000 organizations.
Bonus! Alumni who annually dedicate their volunteer hours to SU SERVE are one step closer to becoming a Champion for Growth.
A campus favorite held every year in mid-November, when faculty and staff serve students a carved turkey dinner with all the fixings in Evert Dining Room.
We welcome the incoming class at this annual ceremony. After the faculty marshal brings down the ceremonial mace to open the university’s academic year, your journey has begun!
