Andrew Steely

October 25, 2017

For triple major Andrew Steely '18, some of his best experiences at Susquehanna came in the lab.

"The lab is a crazy place!" says the physics, chemistry and math major from Catawissa, Pa. "I gained intimate knowledge of the lasers and equipment we work with, both operationally and structurally. Fixing broken lab equipment gave me experience troubleshooting and repairing complex electronics."

"I also gained coding experience across several computer languages. This dense experimental and theoretical background prepared me to be a competitive applicant for jobs in academia or industry."

In partnership with Lehigh University, he did research in diatomic molecular spectroscopy with Carl Faust, assistant professor of physics at Susquehanna. He also helped Faust in his efforts to establish a functional laser lab on campus.

After graduation, Steely planned to pursue a graduate degree in experimental physics or engineering.
