Susquehanna University has appointed James L. Goonan as the university's director of international admission.
Goonan comes to Susquehanna with more than 20 years of experience in university recruitment and admissions.
"We are very excited to welcome Jim to Susquehanna," said Madeleine Rhyneer, vice president of enrollment and marketing at Susquehanna. "A robust group of international students complements and adds value to the required cross-cultural experience all students enjoy at Susquehanna. With Jim's experience and strong network we know our international enrollment will continue to grow."
Goonan most recently directed international undergraduate and graduate admissions at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach, Fla., where he increased new international student enrollments by 47 percent (from about 713 to almost 1,050), with more than 100 countries represented.
"I believe that a strong international student presence on campus provides a great learning opportunity for American students and enhances cross-cultural understanding," Goonan said. "The world is very small, and SU students are better prepared for work and for life when they have direct experience with different cultures."
Goonan earned his undergraduate degree in marketing from the University of Scranton and went on to earn his MBA from the same university.
