Susquehanna University’s Riley Stone ’20 has been named a National Small College Rugby Organization (NSCRO) 2019-2020 All-American. Stone was named one of the 25 All-Americans out of over 6,500 active collegiate players in NSCRO rugby.

Starting eight-man for Susquehanna’s men’s club rugby team, Stone, a business administration major from Newport, Pennsylvania, made an impact in helping the team achieve the most successful season in the club’s 50-year tenure. This year, men’s rugby finished third place at the NSCRO Sweet 16 tournament held in Raleigh, North Carolina, culminating in an overall eighth-place national ranking for the 2019-2020 15s season.

While in North Carolina, Stone was also presented the Heart and Soul Award for his dynamic play and contributions to the team’s third-place finish in the tournament.

Stone’s recognition comes after a collegiate rugby career marked by injury and recovery. While training for Susquehanna’s 7s nationals appearance in May 2018, Stone suffered a torn ACL which put him on the sideline through most of Spring 2019. But after a return to health, Stone was able to make a name for himself once again on the field and was selected for the NSCRO 15s Mid-Atlantic South All Star Team. He was also a member of the 2019 7s National Championship Team for Susquehanna.

Stone is not the first Susquehanna rugby All-American alumni. Ryheem Powell ‘19 was named a NSCRO All-American in 2018.
