Austin Park

Park is spending his summer in a unique internship—with the Office of the Sergeant at Arms in the U.S. Senate. He works with the doorkeepers, the individuals who make sure the Senate continues to have sessions and who protect the senators.

Grace Tesoro
Grace Tesoro

Grace Tesoro, a junior from Berkeley Heights, N.J., spent her summer interning in two different departments of NBCUniversal—the booking department of MSNBC and Peacock Productions, a subsidiary of NBC News.

Political Science Interns

Several political science students are spending their summers interning in the offices of state and U.S. legislators.

Mike Alvaro

Mike Alvaro ’19 wants to make a difference in the lives of those suffering from cancer—and he’s not waiting until he’s achieved his lifelong dream of earning a Ph.D. to become a cancer researcher.

Erik Riva Contreras
Erik Rivas Contreras

For the second summer, Erik Rivas Contreras has found himself interning in quite a jungle—just not the kind you’re thinking of. Contreras is interning in a jungle of computer code at Gannett Fleming.

Sara Costa

When it comes to innovation, no company is perhaps more top-of-mind than Tesla. So, when a recruiter approached senior Sara Costa about an opportunity with the company, she jumped.

Nick Trotter

Nick Trotter has spent the past three years, including this summer, working for the Office of First-Year Experience, which exists to help students transition to college life with programs and activities that start in June and continue throughout their first year.

Kristina Fenner
Alex Cocolas and Kristina Fenner

A summer at Johns Hopkins University and the National Center for Toxicological Research are giving two rising seniors a glimpse into life after Susquehanna.

The Eric Stein Fund for International Experience endowment enables students in the Sigmund Weis School of Business to intern with companies around the world.

Amanda Grosz

Amanda Grosz ’19 is participating in a unique leadership development program with JPMorgan Chase & Co. that introduces potential Chase employees to the business, its products and customers.

Samantha Carpentiere ’20, communications and marketing intern, American Foundation for Children with AIDS (AFCA)

During my internship, I created newsletter and registration email templates for all the events that the AFCA holds throughout the year. I created a promotional video for an event called #30000Miles. This internship really opened my eyes to the communications world. Going into it, I really had no clue what I wanted to do with my major; however, now I feel more confident in saying that I want to go the humanitarian, non-profit route-working with underdeveloped and underprivileged groups to leave a positive impact.

Zaida Bryant ’19, Moore Undergraduate Research Apprentice Program (MURAP), University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

I was selected to be one of 21 students across the nation to participate in the MURAP program. The 10-week program has prepared me for the graduate-level experience, and I hope to obtain a Ph.D. in either anthropology or African diaspora/African American studies. My summer research is titled ‘One Can Ever Feel [Her] Threeness: The Question of Black Authenticity for Afro-Latinas in Hip Hop Culture.' By using Afro-Latinas Amara La Negra and Cardi B, who are associated with hip-hop culture, as a case study and Twitter as a virtual ethnographic field site, I seek to understand the distinct negotiations Afro-Latinx people face surrounding their blackness in the United States.

Bryan Colby ’20, research intern, Freshwater Research Institute, Susquehanna University

We look at streams in the area at different farms and look from a year-to-year basis to help improve it. When I started, I couldn't tell if a stream was in a good position or not. But now I can definitely tell if something doesn't have enough of a riparian zone or if it doesn't have enough trees. I think working with precision conservation is fairly important work. It's pretty cool to be the first one in there and being able to be a small part of this process of helping. I'm very interested in aquatic ecology so I think this is a step for me to take more of an interest in it, and actually do something. I would like to work on the Chesapeake Bay in the future.

Where Can You Intern?

Our students are landing internships all over the globe. This sampling of placements is based on information from the Career Development Center.
