Theatre to Present Sizwe Bansi Is Dead
Theatre to Present Sizwe Bansi Is Dead

September 20, 2016

Theatre students at Susquehanna University will present Sizwe Bansi Is Dead Sept. 30-Oct. 1 in Degenstein Center Theater. Performances begin at 7:30 p.m.

Sizwe Bansi Is Dead is an award-winning play chronicling a powerful time of challenge and change in South Africa. The 1972 play by Athol Fugard, with John Kani and Winston Ntshona, is about the dehumanizing treatment of South Africa's black population under apartheid. The play is a bleak comic story about a man who can keep himself afloat only by putting himself six feet under, as a potent parable of the perverse cruelties of life under the Afrikaner regime.

This free, public performance is the first in a new second stage season that will feature a collection of mostly student-generated production focusing on bare-bones performances of challenging works in unconventional spaces.
