Baseball Has Home Run Season

A year full of athletic highlights was capped off by the baseball team's dramatic run through the 2016 NCAA Tournament. A team that was picked to finish fifth in the Landmark Preseason Poll—one spot out of the playoffs—went on to not only win the conference crown but also pick up a program-record four wins in the NCAA Tournament.

When it was all said and done, the team racked up a record 33 wins, won its first-ever Landmark Conference title, and saw seven players earn All-Conference recognition and its coaches named the Landmark Coaching Staff of the Year. SU was ranked 15th in the final Division III national poll of the year, the highest ranking in program history.

In addition to the seven All-Conference players, two players were named All-Americans in late May. Senior Justin Cassinelli '16 and Zach Leone '17 were selected as D3Baseball.com All-Americans. Cassinelli left Susquehanna with the program's second-best career batting average and tied for third in home runs. Leone, meanwhile, is the program's career-batting average leader through two seasons with the team.

As last year came to a close, Cassinelli and Leone were ultimately two of eight athletic All-Americans for Susquehanna. In addition, a total of nine student-athletes were named Scholar All-Americans, making last year one of the most successful on and off the playing fields.
