River Hawks Add to Landmark Conference Success

As one of the eight founding members of the Landmark Conference, the River Hawks have grabbed 30 titles during the 11-year existence of the league, including nine championships in women’s swimming & diving and five in men’s cross country. And now three more started off the 2018–19 athletic calendar.

Susquehanna field hockey and women’s soccer won the first-ever Landmark Conference championship titles for their respective programs.

For field hockey, the win meant Susquehanna’s fourth NCAA Tournament berth, and the first since 2002, while women’s soccer made its second consecutive appearance in the national playoffs. The women’s soccer team capped off its successful campaign with a 13–3–4 overall record, just one win shy of tying the school record for most wins in a season.

Women’s swimming & diving kept the winning streak alive during the winter season as the River Hawks once again dominated the field and won their ninth straight conference title, having bested second-place Catholic University of America by 117 points.

Additionally, 35 Susquehanna student-athletes tallied 59 All-Landmark honors, including 20 first-team selections. Five River Hawks also gained major Landmark awards this fall and winter.

A.J. Smith ’22 of the field hockey team was voted the Landmark Rookie of the Year, becoming the third River Hawk to garner that distinction, while Anna Werner ’22 claimed the same honor in women’s soccer for the program’s first-ever such award.

Eric Towse ’22 won three gold medals at the 2019 Landmark Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships to become the second male Susquehanna swimmer to be tabbed as Landmark Rookie of the Year. Krista White ’19 wrapped up her career as the 2019 Landmark Women’s Diver of the Year, claiming top honors in the three-meter diving event. This is the first-ever Landmark Diver of the Year award—male or female—for the swimming programs.

Chris Petraskie ’20 was named the Landmark Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Year for the third season in a row after capturing three events at the 2019 Landmark Championships.
