Summer 2019 Internships
Mayo Clinic — Anna Mykytyn '20

Enterprise — Logan Sears '20

Coach — Marisa Batiloro '20
Classes have ended for the summer, but the learning hasn't stopped for Susquehanna students who are interning all over the country and the world. We caught up with some of them to learn more about what they are doing and learning.

Business students confirm their career choices with intensive and immersive summer internships.

Marisa Battiloro has a coveted fashion industry internship with Tapestry, a house of brands that includes Coach.

Communications students take their learning outside the classroom in career-building internships.

A highly competitive fellowship allowed Anna Mykytyn '20 to research cancer at the Mayo Clinic.

Several business students are living and working abroad this summer with support from the Eric Stein Fund for International Experience.

Catherine Welch received a fellowship to shadow physicians for a summer at a Portuguese hospital.

Donovan Gayles ’20
Student trainee
Organizing Corps, Philadelphia
By interning with the Democratic Party of Pennsylvania, I can work on the ground to show voters that there are people listening. Many say they “don’t do politics” and my response every time is, “Well, politics does you.” Criminal justice reform, healthcare and infrastructure all involve local, state or national politics. Our job is to create passionate lifetime voters. Many elected officials, including President Obama, have started their careers as community organizers. After this internship, I will have the opportunity to join a 2020 presidential campaign. While the future may be unknown, this position has undoubtedly given me the network and ability to spark change.

Liz Ludwig ’21
Hospitality intern
Hershey Entertainment & Resorts
Upon being selected as a singular intern through a very competitive process, my focus is management within the concessions department. Some of my day-to-day managerial responsibilities include assisting in supervision and execution of daily operations throughout Hersheypark, reinforcing employee training programs and so much more. Throughout my internship, I'm gaining valuable hospitality experience and sharpening both my management and communication skills. My internship is an absolute blast and I am so excited to be able to make a “sweet” impact on employees and guests!

Colin Hoke ’20
Research assistant
University of Vermont Medical School
I specifically chose research within addiction and mental health because I want to become a psychiatrist and this lab was the perfect fit. The work that we are doing is part of the ENIGMA Network, which is a worldwide network of researchers to assess different regions of the brain and its effects on addiction, which is pretty cool! This fellowship is helping me solidify my career path choice because I truly have a passion for helping people and their mental health.

Quinn Burkhart ’21
Science writing and communications intern
Smithsonian Environmental Research Center
The Smithsonian Environmental Research Center is a branch of the Smithsonian Institution. They research climate science and coastal ecosystems. My internship, science communications, includes reporting about that research, public relations work within the Mall and photography. It’s awesome to see how my passion for writing can accommodate my other loves of science and history. Plus, the Smithsonian Institute is so much more than the Mall, and this backstage view is impeccable.
Where Can You Intern?
Our students are landing internships all over the globe. This sampling of placements is based on information from the Career Development Center.
