Elizabeth Massey

Elizabeth Massey is an active bassoonist in South Central Pennsylvania and the Baltimore-Washington area, performing frequently with the Gettysburg Chamber Orchestra, the Metta Ensemble, and many other area chamber and university ensembles. In addition to her appointment at Susquehanna, Ms. Massey maintains a private teaching studio and reed business. She is also currently in the Musicology PhD program at the University of Maryland, where she has taught various courses in western art music and popular music history.

Ms. Massey received her Bachelor of Arts from Gettysburg College, where she studied with Anna Claire Ayoub. Returning to her hometown near Baltimore, Ms. Massey then studied with Lynn Moncilovich while working with the Hopkins Symphony Orchestra and the Shriver Hall Concert Series in various management positions. She then matriculated at the Peabody Conservatory of The Johns Hopkins University, where she studied with Philip Kolker and received a Master of Music in Bassoon as well as a Master of Music in Musicology. While at Peabody, Ms. Massey was a member of the award-winning Peabody Symphony Orchestra, performed dulcian with the Peabody Renaissance Ensemble, worked with conductors Teri Murai, Edward Polochick, Rob Kapilow, Hannu Litu, Marian Alsop, and Leon Fleisher, and also held a musicology teaching assistantship.
