Pursue your love for music and worship

Hone your skills as a worship leader and be a part of one of the best liberal arts music departments in the nation.

You will have the opportunity to learn the basics of church music and receive private lessons in your area of interest. Grow your skills with others who share your passion for worship and music leadership by serving as an organist for campus services or leading Susquehanna’s handbell choir.

At the end of the program, you may choose to earn your Choir-Master Certificate or Service Playing Certificate offered by the American Guild of Organists.

Inside Church Music

Whether you’re majoring in music or another discipline, you will learn from some of the finest faculty as you grow as a church musician. This program pairs nicely with any of our 60 academic programs.

Students pursuing a minor in church music will:

  • Strengthen their worship leadership and planning skill sets by connecting the principles and practice of music making in a liturgical setting.
  • Build a robust knowledge of music within the Christian tradition, with an emphasis on the historical foundations of sacred repertoire, as well as the awareness of its cross-cultural identities and practices.
  • Develop musical and instrumental skills, in preparation for involvement in a theological music environment following graduation.
