We'll roll out the welcome mat for families the first weekend of November 2017! The weekend will include:

  • A welcome reception
  • Information sessions
  • Student musical
  • Sporting events
  • Family-fun activities

2:15 p.m. - Admission Information Session (New Admission House, University Avenue

6 p.m. - Shabbat Dinner (Hillel House). Vegetarian potluck dinner. Registration required. Vegetarian main dish will be provided. Guests are asked to bring a vegetarian side dish, salad, or dessert. To register, please contact Eli Bass, director of Jewish life, (basse@susqu.edu or 570-372-4440).

6 - 7:30 p.m. - Welcome Reception (Pine Lawn, University Avenue) Hosted by President Jonathan Green and his wife, Ms. Lynn Buck. Registration preferred.

7:30 p.m. - Scholars’ Program (Stretansky Concert Hall, Cunningham Center for Music and Art) Registration Preferred.

7:30 p.m. - Student Musical, She Loves Me (Degenstein Center Theater). Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for non-SU students and senior citizens. They may be purchased from the Susquehanna University Box Office by calling 570-372-ARTS (2787) between noon and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

8:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. - Registration (Mellon Lounge). Stop by the registration table to pick up family buttons and a schedule.

8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. - Explore Our Town (Downtown Selinsgrove). Visit at least three participating Selinsgrove businesses and be entered to win a $100 gift certificate. Information will be available at registration in Mellon Lounge from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. and from the Information Desk from 1 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

10 a.m. - Meet President Jonathan Green (Degenstein Center Theater)

11 a.m. - Turtles, Lemons, and Stills: When Cars Came to Selinsgrove (Shearer Weber Dining Rooms). Associate Professor of History Ed Slavishak will present research conducted with history students that reveals the fabric of everyday life in Selinsgrove in the early twentieth century. As local residents bought more and more automobiles after 1910, they unleashed a series of social and material changes in the way they thought about themselves, each other, and outsiders. The research is part of the Central Susquehanna Valley History Project.

11 a.m. - 1 p.m. - The Evasons Mentalist Duo (Evert Dining Room) Entertainment during lunch. Sponsored by the Student Activities Committee (SAC), this famous mentalist duo Jeff and Tessa Evason will perform mind-blowing feats of ESP and Second Sight that will have you buzzing long after the show ends.

12 p.m. - 4 p.m. - Ninth Annual Juried Figurative Drawing and Painting Competition and Exhibition (Lore Degenstein Gallery) An exhibition of the 2017 national, juried visual art competition held at Susquehanna. The annual competition is open to two-dimensional figurative artists (referencing the human figure), working in painting, drawing and printmaking who are over the age of 18.

1 p.m. - Global Opportunities Programs Pre-Departure Session for Parents (Blough-Weis Library). This session is intended for parents of students who will go on their GO trips during winter 2017–18, spring 2018 or summer 2018.

1 p.m. - Global Opportunities Program (Faylor Hall, in Fisher Hall). A general information session for all parents.

1 p.m. - 4 p.m. - SAC Family Photos

1 p.m. - 4 p.m. - Football vs. McDaniel (Amos Alonzo Stagg Field)

2 p.m. - 6 p.m. - Escape Room (Benjamin Apple Meeting Rooms 1–4) Free. Teams of up to six players have 15 minutes to solve the puzzles to win the game. Individual puzzles and brain teasers keep you entertained while you wait.

4 p.m. - All in the Family Reception (Pine Lawn). A reception for SU students who are related to someone who graduated from Susquehanna (parent, grandparent, sibling, aunt or uncle). By invitation only.

7:30 p.m. - Student Musical, She Loves Me (Degenstein Center Theater). Budapest shop employees Georg Nowack and Amalia Balash are consistently at odds with each other at work and completely unaware that each is the other’s secret pen pal, found through a lonely-hearts ad. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for non-SU students and senior citizens. They may be purchased from the Susquehanna University Box Office by calling 570-372-ARTS (2787) between noon and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

8 p.m. - Open Mic Night (a bigger and better Charlie’s Coffeehouse). Family members are invited to perform at this annual favorite.

11 a.m. - University Chapel Service (Weber Chapel, University Avenue)

12 p.m. - Bagel Brunch (Hillel House, University Avenue)

2:30 p.m. - Student Musical, She Loves Me (Degenstein Center Theater).
