During the 26,000 years it takes for the Earth to complete one cycle of its axial precession, eleven stars will serve as our guiding light. Since 2015, through her initiative Jump!Star, artist George Ferrandi has been honoring each of these stars through Nebuta – a traditional Japanese technique for constructing monumental, illuminated parade sculptures made of paper, wire, string, and wood. A selection of these sculptures will be featured in once more & hopeful stars; additionally, Ferrandi and SU students are building a new illuminated sculpture in the gallery space over the course of the exhibition.
