River Hawk Day – June 21, 2024

River Hawk Day is the  premier summer opportunity for enrolling students to explore campus, meet their peers and to connect with campus resources to help both students, and families/supporters, prepare for a successful transition to Susquehanna in the fall.

Schedule

9:45–10:15 a.m.

Check-In
Mellon Lounge (Charles B. Degenstein Campus Center)
Receive information about the day’s events, check in on your River Hawk Portal progress, grab some coffee at Starbucks and visit with faculty and staff from the Blough-Weis Library, Student Financial Services, Campus Safety and Early Academic Advisors. Breakfast pastries will be provided.

Resource Fair

Explore campus resources at your leisure, check out our retro photo booth, create an airbrush masterpiece or visit Susquehanna’s bookstore. See the list below to check out who will be there.

Gather with other students and families to learn about everything lined up for River Hawk Day.

The RESIDENTIAL Experience: Living and Learning on Campus
Degenstein Center Theater (Charles B. Degenstein Campus Center)
Hear from Residence Life about what it’s like to live on campus, including guidance about what to bring with you to set up your space and what your next steps look like to prepare for coming to campus. Learn some tips and tricks to transition to a new space (and roommate) from the staff who’ll support you in your residence hall this year.

Videos that highlight the four standard residence halls for first-year students will be on display throughout the day. Stop by the Residence Life table during the Resource Fair or the Burke Hawk Hub any time you’re passing through the campus center. The university will be hosting institutes and conferences that week, making residential spaces unavailable for in-person tours.

The COMMUTER Experience: How To Connect While Commuting
Commuter Lounge (Charles B. Degenstein Campus Center)
Join us for a session created just for commuters. Meet other commuter students and the Commuter Student Organization’s advisor and learn more about what it’s like to commute, how to connect with upper-level commuters, how to be engaged in campus life, and other ways to make your drive smoother. You will also visit the Commuter Lounge and go home with something designed especially for commuters.


11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

FAMILIES: Letting Go & Staying Connected
Stretansky Concert Hall (Cunningham Center for Music & Art)
Parents, families and other supporters will explore the upcoming transition and consider how to prepare to let go and support your Susquehanna student.

STUDENTS: SU Trivia & Getting Involved on Campus
Isaacs Auditorium (Seibert Hall)
Participate in some SU trivia, snag some swag and hear from a panel of current students about how to get involved on campus.


12:30–1:15 p.m.

Getting To Know Student Financial Services

Learn about services and timelines regarding student aid and billing as well as some reminders and tips to help students and their supporters successfully navigate the aid and billing processes at Susquehanna.


1:15–2:15 p.m.

Soaring to Academic Success: Strategies and Support for Collegiate Excellence
Stretansky Concert Hall (Cunningham Center for Music & Art)

Learn how the expectations in college differ from high school and explore the resources, tips and strategies available at Susquehanna that will help you succeed academically. 

Hear from the Center for Academic Success and the TRiO and REACH Scholars Program staff about free tutoring services and workshops designed to strengthen your learning experience and support your academic journey. This workshop will also include specialized resources and guidance for first-generation, income-eligible and disabled students.

First-Year to Career: Transferable Skills and Student Employment

Even though the start to college is a couple months away, it’s never too early to start thinking about résumés, on-campus jobs and career preparation. Learn about the services provided by the Career Development Center and why it’s important for new students to engage with the CDC as soon your first semester.
