The 24th Annual Latinx Initiative (formerly the Latino Symposium) will take place April 9 and 10.

April 9, 6 p.m., Faylor Hall in Fisher Hall
Join us for a showing of the film ¡Palante Siempre Palante!: The Young Lords. Produced, written, and co-directed by the 2019 Latinx Intiative special guest Iris Morales, this documentary tells the story of the Young Lords—a civil and human rights organization fighting for economic and social justice for Puerto Rican communities in the United States.

April 10, 3 p.m., Apple Meeting Rooms in the Degenstein Campus Center
Students will present a panel entitled "The Labels That Define Us."

April 10, 7:30  p.m., Isaacs Auditorium in Seibert Hall
Community activist, attorney, filmmaker and special guest Iris Morales will present her talk entitled "Reflections of Latinx Activism: From Marginality to the Frontlines."

Morales is a lifelong activist and educator. She was a leading member of the Young Lords Party and organizer in the Puerto Rican liberation movement of the 1960s and 1970s. Through the years, she has been involved in movements for racial justice, women's rights, climate justice and the decolonization of Puerto Rico.
