Susquehanna University’s Department of Music was recently reaccredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM), the culmination of a two-year review to ensure students receive the very best musical education.
“Students can be confident that we are meeting some very stringent guidelines established by a national organization that accredits the strongest music programs in the country,” said David Steinau, associate professor of music and chair of the Department of Music.
In its findings, NASM cited as strengths
- Susquehanna’s talented faculty who are firmly committed to excellent teaching and mentoring;
- small class sizes that are reflective of the character of a small liberal arts university
- close interaction between faculty and students;
- broad university support and pride in its music program;
- and impressive endowed accounts that support an exceptional roster of guest performers to campus.
Susquehanna has been accredited by NASM since 1961 and undergoes an extensive review every 10 years.
Susquehanna offers a Bachelor of Arts in music and Bachelor of Music degree programs in music composition, education and performance. Minors are available in music technology and music theory/literature. The university’s premier music performance space is Stretansky Concert Hall, a magnificent 320-seat venue built in 2002.
Founded in 1924, NASM establishes national standards for undergraduate and graduate degrees and other credentials for music and music-related disciplines. It has approximately 650 accredited institutional members.
