Susquehanna University ranks No. 15 among the top 30 most affordable colleges with the best study abroad programs in the nation, according to Great Value Colleges (GVC).

GVC’s ranking recognizes Susquehanna’s Global Opportunities (GO) program in which students study off campus in a culture different from their own, either in the U.S. or abroad. Ninety percent choose to study abroad for two weeks or as long as a semester. Students choose from more than 100 programs on six continents based on their area of interest.

Susquehanna was among the first in the nation to require every student to have a meaningful cross-cultural experience, followed by scholarly reflection. In a time of geopolitical and economic complexity, cultural competency in the workplace is an essential skill.

This is the latest in a long line of recognitions for Susquehanna’s GO program, which has also been recognized by The Princeton Review, U.S. News & World Report, the Fiske Guide to Colleges and the Institute of International Education.

In this most recent ranking, Susquehanna is named alongside universities such as Georgetown, Duke and West Virginia.

GVC developed its ranking by starting with a list of 100 accredited colleges and universities collected from various rankings and sources, including U.S. News & World Report’s 2015 list of schools with the highest percentage of students studying abroad. GVC then ranked the top 30 using a point-based methodology that awarded schools for affordability, study abroad popularity among enrolled students, the variety of opportunities offered, the depth and extent of these programs, the abroad trip length, the number of school-funded scholarships for study abroad and additional awards or recognition the school received for its programs in the past.
