Susquehanna University dedicated its new Admission House on Wednesday with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting in advance of the university’s 159th Commencement.

The $7 million project was fully funded by contributions from Susquehanna’s Board of Trustees.

“This Admission House will serve as a beacon and a point of entry to this place that will continue to educate students for productive, creative and reflective lives of achievement, leadership and service in a diverse, dynamic and interdependent world for years to come,” said university President L. Jay Lemons.

The 15,500 square-foot building was designed by architect Peter Bohlin of Bohlin Cywinski Jackson. Bohlin and his firm have designed several distinctive buildings, including the New York City Apple Store on Fifth Avenue, Bill Gates’ home in Medina, Wash., and Pixar’s headquarters in Emeryville, Calif.

Among several LEED-certified buildings on campus, design elements that support certification include:

Storm water management and control
Reduced water use (20 percent less than a typical office building)
Water-efficient landscaping
Minimum and optimized energy performance
Indoor chemical and pollutant-source control
Lighting control for energy management
Enhanced daylight use
“This wonderful Admission House will soon ring with the voices of prospective students and parents,” said Madeleine Rhyneer, vice president of enrollment and marketing. “In every way, this new home puts our best foot forward as we welcome our guests in a place that exemplifies the excellence that is Susquehanna.”
