• Patrick Bolger ’17

Patrick Bolger ’17 was initially drawn to Susquehanna because he didn’t know what he wanted to study—and Susquehanna was the only school he applied to that addressed the undeclared student.

After taking a variety of courses his first year, he declared not one but two majors in the fall of his sophomore year-international studies and economics.

“I had an interest in global politics and foreign policy,” says Bolger, who chose to focus on diplomacy for his international studies major, and global economics and financial markets for his economics major.

“There’s always something new to learn, and the classes are very thought-provoking. The material that we learn relates really strongly with the current events of global politics,” Bolger says of his international studies major.

“I enjoy the interdisciplinary aspect of the international studies major, which I feel can benefit me in a variety of ways when trying to analyze the conflicts going on in the world,” adds the Hopatcong, N.J., native.

Bolger got a firsthand look at some of the world during his semester abroad in Barcelona. While he was there, he also traveled around Spain and to Portugal, Italy and the United Kingdom.

“It was really eye opening to be in a place where your language isn’t the common language. I fell in love with their way of life, and I have to go back at some point,” he says.

Bolger now works as a pricing analyst at Avis Budget Group.
