Susquehanna University alumnus Craig Housenick won his third Emmy for his outstanding lighting work on NBC’s The Voice. It was the fourth nomination for Housenick’s work on The Voice. He also won the award in 2015 and 2013, and was nominated in 2014.

Housenick and his fellow crew members with The Voice were nominated for a Primetime Creative Arts Emmy by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in the Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction in a Variety Series category. They competed against American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, Saturday Night Live and So You Think You Can Dance.

The award honors the lighting design of the live semifinal performances that aired in December. This video clip from the show features contestant Jordan Smith performing “Somebody to Love.”

“I think what may be our greatest strength on The Voice is our ability to collaborate. It plays to all of our strengths and creates a piece that is stronger than any individual could possibly muster. These are skills that began at Susquehanna and have served me well in the wider community,” Housenick said.

A member of the Class of 1998, he majored in theater arts at Susquehanna. Housenick was the media server operator on The Voice, before advancing to the position of lighting director. Pushing to stay among the best in his field constantly drives Housenick.

“We really do try to push ourselves,” he said. “I think the greatest part about being on the team I am with The Voice, is that we all complement each other so well and push each other and inspire each other. Such a dynamic is truly rare and I feel privileged to be a small part of that.”

The 68th Annual Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony was held over two nights on September 10 and 11 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. You can see Housenick receive his Emmy here at the 42-minute mark.
