Exercise Science

Turn your passion for movement into a career that transforms lives.

Exercise Science degree

Discover how our degree in exercise science prepares you for a career in fitness, sports and wellness. Build the knowledge and hands-on skills to help others live stronger and healthier lives.

At Susquehanna our exercise science degree goes beyond the classroom to help you understand how the human body moves, adapts and thrives. You will explore courses in cell biology and genetics, nutrition, exercise physiology and biomechanics. Through interactive labs, research projects and hands-on experiences you will see how exercise influences health and performance across diverse populations.

Our program equips you with the skills to design effective exercise programs, analyze data and interpret research with confidence. Guided by faculty with real-world experience in clinical and community environments, you will graduate ready to make an impact and help individuals improve their health through movement and meaningful lifestyle choices.

You will be prepared for careers in fitness, rehabilitation, strength and conditioning and wellness settings, and for advanced study in physical therapy, occupational therapy, athletic training and exercise physiology. Through our agreement with Harrisburg University qualified Susquehanna graduates have priority access to three reserved seats in each Doctor of Physical Therapy cohort, creating a clear pathway to advanced clinical training.

Direct Pathway to Doctor of Physical Therapy

An agreement with Harrisburg University provides Susquehanna exercise science graduates with priority access to the Doctor of Physical Therapy program, creating a clear pathway to advanced clinical training and careers in high-demand physical therapy fields.

Major in Exercise Science

The Exercise Science major provides students with a strong foundation in the scientific principles that explain human movement, health, and performance. The program integrates coursework from the biological, physical, and social sciences to prepare students for diverse careers and advanced study in fields such as health and wellness, rehabilitation, athletic training, strength and conditioning, and exercise physiology.

Learning goals

Students graduating with a major in exercise science will:

  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of the anatomical, physiological, biomechanical, and neurological principles underlying human movement, exercise, and performance.
  • Be able to critically evaluate and apply research to design, implement, and assess exercise programs and interventions that promote health, fitness, and performance across diverse populations.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, effective communication, and ethical conduct in academic, clinical, and community settings related to exercise and health.
  • Be able to integrate insights from the social sciences, humanities, and natural sciences to understand human health and performance in social, cultural, and environmental contexts.
