Residence Life Staff
The Office of Residence Life consists of over 80 professional, paraprofessional and student staff members. Thirteen head residents act as direct supervisors of the residence halls and more than 70 resident assistants.
The residence life staff works closely with athletics, the Center for Diversity and Social Justice, the Office of Student Activities, Facilities Management, the Counseling Center, the Health Center, the Department of Public Safety, ARAMARK Food Services, and the Office of First-Year Programs to maintain a residence hall program that serves every student’s needs.
The professional staff is committed to giving every student a rewarding residential experience at Susquehanna University. With the exception of our administrative assistant, each professional staff member lives on campus in houses or apartments in or near student housing.
In addition to living and working on campus, the professional staff engages in the community in many other ways, including advising clubs and organizations and participating in campus activities.
A team of Resident Assistants (RAs) and Head Residents are invaluable in residence life programming at Susquehanna. A resident assistant (RA) is located on each floor or hallway in most residence halls and within a close proximity to all suite or house-style buildings. The RA staff of each residential area is directly supervised by a head resident, a former RA who has been promoted to a higher level of responsibility.
In most halls, the ratio of RAs to residents is approximately 1:30, to allow for a closer bond and greater supervision within the hall. RAs are trained extensively in crisis management, community building, diversity and social justice, and counseling. They confidently handle maintenance issues, student-conduct scenarios, programming initiatives and roommate mediations.
