Dear Students:
In alignment with Susquehanna University’s educational mission to provide a holistic residential living and learning experience, we have concluded that a Covid-19 vaccination requirement for all students is the best solution for fall 2021.
As advised by the American College Health Association, vaccination not only offers protection against disease transmission among our campus community, but it also is supportive of those unable to get vaccinated themselves for medical or religious reasons, which we will honor. Most importantly, a vaccinated student body will allow us to return to a pre-pandemic sense of normalcy. We hope that you can respect our decision, as it was made after much consideration of how to best take care of everyone.
And our efforts are proven. SU has 100% compliance with the vaccine requirement this summer — 150 students are successfully residing and/or working on campus, while hundreds of employees are preparing for the arrival of the fall term — all without the disruptions of testing, quarantines, and contact tracing. It is nice to see so many smiling faces up close without masks. Most staff have returned to work on campus since the start of June. Already three-fourths of SU faculty and staff have reported that they are fully vaccinated, and that number will rise as faculty return to campus for the new academic year.
We will continue to communicate and work with students, even into the start of the semester if needed, to help them get immunized.
