Dear Students,
We are within weeks of successfully completing the spring semester, despite the pandemic, thanks to your sacrifices and continued cooperation. Although this term is not yet completed, we already have been planning for the summer.
With recent faster-spreading variants — especially those more severely affecting young adults and children, out of caution for everyone’s safety — we are introducing vaccination protocols that will affect students residing or working on campus over the summer, as well as summer camps and pre-college programs.
Effective Monday, June 14, 2021, the following persons at SU will be required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19, which is defined as at least two weeks after the final dose.
- All students living on campus this summer.
- Guests of student-residents will be permitted on campus if they are registered and fully vaccinated.
- Students who are fully vaccinated can gather in their campus home without masks as long as everyone in the group is vaccinated.
- Domestic travel restrictions are lifted for anyone fully vaccinated.
- All students working on campus this summer.
- All students ages 16 and over attending camps or pre-college programs on campus this summer. All students under 16 attending day camps must be tested upon arrival and throughout their camp, depending on the number of days they are on campus.
- All Admission visitors this summer will be required to be vaccinated, otherwise they will be tested upon arrival to campus (as was the protocol this spring).
In requiring a COVID-19 vaccine this summer, we are providing assistance as well as accommodating limited exemptions.

- A student living or working on campus this summer who is unable to be vaccinated due to a medical condition or religious beliefs should contact to discuss potential options.
All students residing or working on campus for the summer who have been fully vaccinated and have submitted a copy of their vaccination card are exempt from campus testing. Otherwise, all students with approved vaccination exemptions will participate in the nasal-swab antigen testing program twice a week throughout the summer.
All students who will be traveling overnight this summer as part of University programs, including study-away programs and athletic competitions are strongly encouraged to get vaccinated. Even if vaccinated, international travel as part of University programs remains subject to CDC Warning Level 3 to avoid nonessential travel to certain destinations.

A decision regarding vaccinations for the fall semester has not yet been finalized. We look forward to students returning to campus in August and will announce Fall 2021 vaccination plans by June 21. In the meantime, take good care and best of luck as you finish this spring.
