Abstract Art Exhibition Opens April 21

The spring art exhibition Abstract and Nonrepresentational Painting will open with a reception in Susquehanna University’s Lore Degenstein Gallery from 7-9 p.m. on Saturday, April 21. The exhibition marks the gallery’s 25th anniversary.

The exhibition was co-curated by gallery director Dan Olivetti and gallery assistant Quinn Evans, a sophomore studio art major from Wrightsville, Pa. The show features nine artists, many from Pennsylvania, invited by Olivetti and Evans. Neil Anderson, represented by the Bridgette Mayer Gallery in Philadelphia, joins the show along with Valerie Allen, an artist/curator from Ohio. Other artists include Carol Galligan, Claire Giblin, Susan Gottlieb, Jerome Hershey, Mark Mahosky, John McCluskey and John Myers.

A vibrant abstract landscape painting featuring a mix of blues and grays in the sky, contrasted with earthy oranges, yellows, and reds in the foreground, evoking a dynamic, textured view of land and sky.

The gallery also will host a poetry reading by Charles Borkhuis on April 24. One of the exhibition artists has created a series of paintings in response to his work.

The Lore Degenstein Gallery, located in the Charles B. Degenstein Campus Center, is open seven days a week, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is closed for university recesses; call 570-372-4059 for an appointment when classes are not in session.

The exhibition continues through May 6. All gallery events are free and open to the public.
