Applying to Creative Writing
Creative Writing Portfolio Submission Guidelines
Application to our creative writing major requires the submission of a portfolio, which will be reviewed by the faculty of the Writers Institute — the hub for all things creative writing-related at Susquehanna University.
We look forward to reading your creative work!
Portfolio Guidelines
Your portfolio can be a short story, a personal essay, a selection of poems, a script, a novel excerpt, a 4-6-panel comic, a recorded feature of performance writing (a link to an online platform alongside a transcript) or a combination of these.
Portfolios should be 5 to 10 double-spaced pages. Please also include a 150-word cover letter in which you tell us what inspires your writing.

Uploading Your Portfolio
You will be able to upload your portfolio to your online applicant portal after you submit your application to Susquehanna.
Portfolio submissions received before Feb. 15 will automatically put you in the running for one of our creative writing scholarships.
Please contact the Writers Institute if you have any questions or the Admission Office if you have any trouble logging in to your River Hawk Portal.
