Admission Requirements

International Student Application for Undergraduate Admissions Checklist:

  1. Complete online application for undergraduate admissions (there is no application fee): Susquehanna University International Application or Common Application
  2. Official or attested secondary school academic transcripts from all secondary schools, post-secondary schools and universities.
  3. TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo English Test score report required — can be waived for SU ELL graduates, or if your high school instruction is in English for all years. Unofficial (screenshot or PDF) reports will be accepted.
  4. SAT and ACT scores are optional, but may improve your chances for a merit scholarship.
  5. Two recommendation letters. It is strongly suggested to have one from your school counselor. The other can come from a teacher or professor.
  6. Passport copy of your name and photo page.
  7. Completed International Student Financial Aid Application (PDF). Please note that full scholarships are not available.
English Proficiency Requirements

If English is not your native language, you will be required to show proof of English proficiency. This can be accomplished by sending an official score report from one of the following exams.

TOEFL

  • Internet-based minimum score: 80
  • Computer-based minimum score: 213
  • Paper-based minimum score: 550
  • The official copy must be sent directly from the testing service. Our school code is 2820.

IELTS

  • Minimum score: 6.0 overall band

Cambridge English

  • Minimum score: 170

Duolingo English Test

  • Minimum score: 110

Oxford ELLT (use promo code SUSQ10)*

  • Minimum score: 6

*This promo code can be utilized for the Oxford English Test and the English for Academic Purposes training course.

Michigan English Test

  • Minimum Score: 55

SAT

  • If you are a first-year undergraduate freshman applicant, your English requirement can be satisfied by achieving at least a 500 on the Critical Reading section of the SAT exam.

ACT

  • If you are a first-year undergraduate freshman applicant, your English requirement can be satisfied by achieving at least a 20 on the English section of the ACT exam.

Exemptions

  • If you have attended an IB (International Baccalaureate) high school program or an American High School abroad, you do not have to prove English proficiency. You may also be exempt if your high school is fully-instructed in English. Please contact your admission counselor for details.
  • If you would like to apply for admission but you have not yet satisfied our English Proficiency Requirements, you can apply for conditional admission. If you are granted a conditional admission, you will:
    • Be assigned to our on-campus English Language Learners (ELL) program;
    • Attend one of our English Language partner institutions: ELS Language Centers (Level 112 must be completed successfully for transfer). An official transcript will be required; or
    • Complete the English for Academic Purposes Online course with Oxford International. 
International Transfer Students

Applicants wishing to transfer from accredited (or government recognized) two-year and four-year universities are welcome to apply to Susquehanna University. Unless there is an articulation agreement in place for your transferring institution, transfer credit will be awarded on an individual basis.

Required information:

  • Official TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge English Exam, Duolingo English Test or Oxford ELLT score(s). Please see English Proficiency Requirements above.
  • Two letters of reference from faculty members.
  • Passport copy of your name and photo page.
  • Completed International Student Financial Aid Application.
  • If you are transferring from another U.S. university on an F-1 student visa, you must complete a SEVIS transfer form with a Designated School Official. Upon completion of the transfer in SEVIS, Susquehanna University will issue a new I-20 form to you.

Advanced Standing & Transfer Credits

If you have taken any of the examinations listed below, you may be eligible for transfer credit awards based on your major selection and grades (marks).

Advanced Placement (AP) Exams: An AP score of 4 or 5 receives the equivalent of four semester hours of course credit. See our AP credit policy.

International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma/Exams: An IB higher level examination score of 5 or greater receives the equivalent of four semester hours of course credit. IB certificate recipients may receive credit for up to two courses in each subject area for which a higher-level (HL) examination score of five or more has been achieved, subject to final confirmation by the appropriate university department.

GCE A-Level Results: General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCE) results of C or higher may receive up to six credits per A-level exam.

Foreign Credit Evaluation: If you are planning to transfer university-level credit from a non-U.S. university, you will need to send us an official course-by-course evaluation. Sponsored Students

If you are receiving a scholarship from a government, educational organization, or an approved third-party company, you are considered a sponsored student.

Admissions requirements for sponsored students are the same as all other international student applicants. However, in place of the International Student Financial Aid Application, an official sponsoring letter and financial guarantee document is required. The amount of support should be declared in U.S. dollars.

Sponsored students are not eligible for Susquehanna University merit scholarship awards.
