For High School Writers

Creative Writing Scholarships

Ten Janet Weis Scholarships of $5,000 each will be offered to first-year creative writing majors based upon the quality of their writing portfolio. The Bundy Scholarship may also be offered to first-year creative writing major based upon the quality of their writing portfolio if funds are not committed to a current student recipient. These scholarships are offered in addition to any academic merit scholarships received. Combined Susquehanna scholarships will not exceed the cost of tuition.

Janet Weis and Bundy Scholarships are renewable for a total of four years as long as the recipient is enrolled full-time as a creative writing major and maintains a 3.2 grade point in the major.

Candidates are encouraged to submit portfolios of 5-10 pages within two weeks of applying to the university, but no later than Feb. 15.

Writers Workshop

Featuring workshops in fiction, poetry and creative nonfiction, Susquehanna’s Summer Writers Workshop was selected as a “Best Value in Summer College Programs” by Early College Programs and named one of the 500 best summer programs in the world by Princeton Review.

Experienced writers entering 10–12 grades in the fall of 2025 are eligible to attend the 2025 Summer Writers Workshop. Participants will be required to submit a writing portfolio containing 3–5 pages of any creative writing in any genre; fiction, poetry, memoir, journalism or plays, as part of the registration process.
