Financial Aid Policy for the Winter Term
Students should be aware that there is no separate disbursement of financial aid for the winter session. Please note that if a student applies for a Federal Direct Parent PLUS loan for the winter and spring sessions, the student must be enrolled during the spring semester to be eligible. Students who enroll during the winter session and are not eligible for federal aid may still apply for an alternative student loan to assist with these costs. Please note that payment for winter classes is due upon registration.
Financial Aid Policy for the Summer Term
Susquehanna University treats the summer term as a trailer to the prior fall and spring semesters.
As such, undergraduate students enrolled in at least 6 credit hours for summer term are eligible to utilize any remaining federal loan eligibility not maximized during the regular academic year. Summer financial aid packages may include the following:
- Remaining Direct loan eligibility – Direct loan eligibility is determined by the year the student is in school and comparing it to the annual loan limits for that year, as outlined by the Department of Ed.
- Summer Parent PLUS loan – If the student is a dependent student, they are eligible for a Parent PLUS loan if Direct loan eligibility has been exhausted. PLUS eligibility is based on a successful parent application.
- Federal Pell grant – Students may be eligible for a summer Pell grant if there is remaining eligibility. A student’s eligibility for summer Pell is dependent on financial need and number of credits.
- Private loan – If the student submits a successful private loan application with the lender, SU can certify summer private loan funds.
To receive an aid package for summer, students must complete the following in order to determine their unique summer aid eligibility:
- Complete the aid application (FAFSA) for the applicable school year.
- Complete the summer aid application for the applicable school year.
Susquehanna will process summer aid for our students who wish to take coursework at another institution during the summer term. To receive a summer aid package, in addition to the items listed directly above this paragraph, students must also provide:
- A copy of the paid receipt from the visited school.
- Confirmation from SU’s Registrar that the course(s) have been approved for transfer.
Once again, please note that payment is due upon registration for your summer classes. If you have any questions, please contact Student Financial Services via email at or by phone at 570-372-4450.
