Originally from the Buffalo, NY area, Zachary Levi lives in Columbia, PA with his wife, Johanna and their two sons, Samuel and Owen. For the past 15 years, he has worked as a cellist, conductor and music educator in the Central PA region. After 15 wonderful years of teaching orchestra in the Southern York County School District, Dr. Levi is excited to begin the post as assistant professor director of Orchestra at Susquehanna University in the fall of 2022. As a conductor, Dr. Levi is the Assistant of Newark (DE) Symphony and The Allegro Chamber Orchestra of Lancaster and served for 10 years as the conductor of the York College Orchestra as well as a one year term with the Dickinson College Orchestra. He is also the director of the “Overture Orchestra” which is part of Allegro’s Youth Orchestra Program. Guest conducting appearances have included the Hunt Valley Symphony Orchestra, The York Chamber Players at York College, and numerous youth honors orchestras throughout Pennsylvania and New York. In 2019, Dr. Levi earned his Doctorate of Musical Arts in Orchestral Conducting at Catholic University of America where he studied with Simeone Tartaglione and Murry Sidlin.
As a cellist, Zachary Levi has remained active performing as a member of the York and Lancaster Symphonies along with the Gettysburg Chamber Orchestra as well as other various performance engagements. He has performed in the cello sections with Albany Symphony, Binghamton Philharmonic, Cayuga Chamber Orchestra and the New World Symphony. Dr. Levi received his Master of Music through studies at the University of Akron where he studied with Michael Haber and the University of Cincinnati – College Conservatory of Music where he studied Lee Fiser. His Bachelor of Music was earned at Ithaca College where he studied with Elizabeth Simkin. He has performed in master classes for David Ying, Steven Doane, Paul Katz and Yo-yo Ma.
