How to File for Veteransā Benefits
If you are applying for VA educational benefits based on a parent or spouseās military service, make sure your parent/spouse has transferred their entitlement to you through the Department of Defense website.
After the entitlement has been transferred, or if you are applying based on your military service, follow these steps.
- Apply for VA Educational Benefits online through the Vets.gov website. Select the link for Application Process and complete the application.
- After your application is processed, you will receive a Certificate of Eligibility (CoE) in your name. Forward a copy of the CoE to the SCO, Bonnie Rice, at .
Payment of Benefits
All academic credit programs at Susquehanna are approved for VA education benefits.
Payments are made approximately 4 ā 6 weeks after the SCO verifies your enrollment.
Chapter 33 tuition and fees benefits are paid directly to the Susquehanna. A monthly housing allowance as well as a books and supplies stipend (based on eligibility) are paid directly to the student. We are part of the Yellow Ribbon Program and provide free tuition to members of that program. Learn more on our scholarships page.
Chapter 31 tuition, fees, and books are paid directly to Susquehanna.
For all other programs payment is made directly to the student.
Student Responsibilities
- Approximately 2-3 weeks prior to each semester the student will receive an email from the SCO containing a link to the VA Educational Benefits Request Form. This form needs to be submitted so the SCO can verify enrollment with the VA for that semester.
- Students receiving Chapter 30, 33, or 1606 benefits must confirm their enrollment monthly with the VA.
- If the VA educational benefits for which you are eligible change at any time a new CoE must be provided to the SCO.
- Notify the SCO of any change to your enrollment status (add/drop classes, change of major, withdrawal, etc.) as these may affect your benefit.
